Empowering Women: Pimer Peace Monica's Journey from Zombo district to Leading Nile Girls Forum
In this SheCentre: The Female Podcast episode, we welcome Pimer Peace Monica, Executive Director and founder of Nile Girls Forum. This remarkable organization, led by resilient young women, focuses on equitable leadership, sexual and reproductive health, and skills development. Peace, recognized as one of Uganda’s 40 under 40 elite in 2019, is a true beacon of inspiration.
Peace shares her journey from humble beginnings in Zombo district, Northern Uganda, where she grew up in a loving, extended family of 15 siblings. The loss of her two siblings and father profoundly shaped her resilience and leadership.
Her story began in the nurses' quarters of Paidha, Zombo district. Her father’s dedication to her education led her to Kampala, where she lived with her aunt. Despite the stark contrasts between her life in Kampala and the struggles she witnessed in her hometown, Peace was driven to make a difference.
In 2018, her passion for community work led her to establish Nile Girls Forum, overcoming initial challenges to secure funding after four years. The organization targets adolescent girls, including refugees, the disabled, and those in slums, focusing on leadership, climate justice, economic development, sexual reproductive health, and peacebuilding.
Peace’s losses fueled her mission to create a supportive community for women and girls. She believes in the power of stories and encourages women to rewrite their narratives, build their futures, and rely on prayer for strength.
Tune in to hear Peace’s inspiring journey and her incredible work to uplift young women and girls. Follow @nile_girls_forum_ug on social media and visit nilegirlsforum.org for more information.
